Hello. Mr Wibble here. Today I’m going to be kicking off a brand new hardcore survival series in Minecraft 1.16.
So really my main aim for today’s episode is I want to get the basics in place like some shelter, some food. But also I want to make a quick trip to The Nether and that’s so that I can get some Nether Quartz which will enable me to do things like an automated chicken cooker. So that’s the plan. We’ll see how it goes. The main thing is though because this is hardcore, I’ve got one life, so I can’t make any silly mistakes. Let’s go!
Right, this looks like I’ve spawned in a plain. Forest. OK. Not a plain at all. Noob mistake number one. Pretty! Right, bees over there. Lots and lots and lots of trees. Water. Good. Alright this is not a bad place to start. I don’t like the number of trees here simply because there’s lots of dark places for beasties to spawn and come and get me. So i’m gonna try and find somewhere that’s possibly a little bit more exposed. Let’s see what’s over this way.
Chickens. Good. OK, let’s just get them. Right, I just want to make some basic tools so I can gather wood more effectively, deal with these chickens, have some food. Where’d you go chick chicks? OK I’m sure I saw about four of them. I can hear them. There’s one hiding behind the tree. Now I feel bad. Sorry baby chicken but I’ve got to eat.
Don’t fall down there! Thank you. Alright let’s keep going, find somewhere a little bit more open. Also, I’m not liking the lack of animals around here. I was hoping to see some sheep, some cows. I’d like to make a bed for the first night. It looks like a snowy biome over there, but at least this little bit here is next to some trees, but not in the forest.
OK, this might be a good place for a starter base. Let’s see if I can see any sheep around because if I can get a bed for the first night then that takes the pressure off quite a bit. Pigs over there I think, a little bit of coal, good. OK, so which way is the sun going? Hard to tell with this shader on but I think the sun is going down. I better pull my finger out. OK, temporary base time.
Let’s make a pickaxe. Let’s get some more wood Oh brilliant! So coal. I can make torches. Good stuff! Get a furnace going with this Cobblestone, some better tools, we’ve got plenty of food. The sun’s about to go down behind that mountain, it’s going to get very dark, very quickly. So let’s get our crafting table.
Let’s make a little underground temporary shelter. OK, before it gets dark I want a crafting table there, I want a furnace there, I want to cook up some food Yeah, just see how far that gets me. I want some torches. Get in there. OK that’ll do. And it’s getting dark already. Brilliant. And I want a door. What do you mean I haven’t got enough wood? OK OK, fine, have it your way. No, I don’t want three doors, but that will have to do.
OK, this will do for the night. Let’s try and make it a little bit better so I’m not feeling like I’m banging my head on the ceiling. Alright, let’s go mining! Excellent. Iron! Just what i want. No coal. Man! OK What was that noise? Ah, it’s an Enderman! Urgh, I don’t really want him hanging around right now. Um, no coal. I can’t make any more torches.
Is it daylight yet? Yeah, right, what I’m hoping is we have some spiders lurking around because I want some string. Was I too slow? Some sheep up there though. And I want string so that I can make a fishing rod. One of my favourite things to do in Minecraft is a little fishing trip. Not only do you get food, you also get hard to find items, like name tags, you get enchanted bows, um did I say enchanted books? So two to three days minecraft fishing can be really helpful.
Right sheep. Get some of that iron smelting. Then I can start making some decent tools and weapons, and maybe some armour. OK where is my little temporary base? There we go. Pretty! Oh. Also Zombie! Not so pretty! Goodbye! OK, bedtime for me. Which is three of those and three of those. Is the zombie too close for me to sleep, though? That’s the question. No!
OK, so I’m now tooled up for another little mining expedition, try and get down to level 12. I’ve got a few stone pickaxes, an iron pickaxe for digging out gold, redstone, hopefully, diamond. That’s what I’m really hoping for. A sword, and an axe, and a shovel, loads of torches. I’ll take a bit of Cobblestone with me. It can be useful for filling in gaps and so on. Right, so here we go!
Now, wait a second. Did you hear that? Of course not. When i stop to listen there’s nothing there! I’m pretty sure I just heard bats. Ah, there we go. So there must be a cave around here somewhere. Hopefully, I’m not going to dig in that and regret it. Ah, yeah. Zombies. OK, we are on 23. OK, so only um 11 to go and I’m at level 12.
What did I just say? OK. Uh not what I really wanted at this stage. I’m not really equipped to deal with loads of beasties. Let’s see if I can get around this somehow. So where are they? Are they around to my left? There’s some good stuff in here though. Oh, OK. Maybe it’s not that bad. I don’t like the sound of that at all. I think that’s possibly gonna be full of nasties. So I’m gonna block this up and deal with that later. Thank you!
Whoa!!! Oh, man! This is not what I wanted. How did that happen? Did I just dig away and step out into nothingness? Right, I need to know that that’s there when I come back down so I’m going to mark it with that. I think that’s pretty obvious. iI didn’t like that very much. Right, ah, let’s see if I can just mine over the top of that. Oh, no I can’t. I’m just not ready. I don’t think… This is a big risk because I’m in hardcore and when I die I die. That’s it.
OK, some good stuff down there. OK, good stuff up there. Oh. So tempting, but also so dangerous. Right, uh. Lapis. Coal. Iron. Oh, I hear skeletons. Where’s that dude? I think I saw some movement, but that was gravel I think. Or water? Water. I don’t like this one bit. OK. Oh, diamond! I think what I should do before I get greedy and careless and foolish is get that iron that’s down there, come back with at least some armour on. Oh, more diamonds!
Spiders! Here spider! OK, that’s enough but I’ll have you as well mate. Thank you. Oh, man! I should have seen that coming really. Oh, right. Uh, eat something quick! And uh run away I think is generally a good idea where they’re concerned. Come on. Come at me bro!
Alright, I think I’m feeling a little bit braver. Not massively. But more prepared than I was. So long as i know where my escape route is and I can get there quickly then I think i’ll be good. I don’t believe it. Diamond! Now then, if there are three here I will be a very happy chappie. Two I can see. Now I’ve been told, or I’ve heard, yeah, it’s a good idea to dig around diamond just incase there is lava right underneath it. Also, you occasionally get another block of diamond ore hiding sort of, you know, around it. No way! Oh, this is a big deposit of diamond. I don’t think it comes much bigger than eight. Well, definitely no lava there. That is awesome! Right so now I basically have the resources I need to start planning a trip to The Nether!
So, I’ve just been on a pretty epic mining expedition. Went down to level 12, found an awesome cave full of all sorts of goodies, really looking for diamonds. [Zombie Moans] Hello! Just about to give up and what do I find? Eight diamonds, which is a bit of a win. I also found five emeralds down there. That never happens. Half a stack of redstone, a bit of gold, a stack and a little bit of iron, a stack and a little bit of lapis, almost three full stacks of coal. So that is fantastic! I’m just going to get organized, have a little think about my next steps on the way to going to The Nether.
OK, so I think I’m ready to go back down into the cave. I’ve got a full set of armour including some shiny new diamond boots. I’ve got a full set of weapons and crucially a diamond pickaxe for mining obsidian and a water bucket to make obsidian from lava. So, here we go! Back down into the scary cave.
Water. Ah, I think there’s some lava. Woah! Where’s that creeper? I really hate creepers with a passion. More food would have been probably quite sensible. I have one steak. Well, hopefully, that’s all i’m going to need. As soon as I pour water on here this is going to get dark suddenly. There we go. Get a bit more light round here. I’m a bit paranoid about monsters spawning. Hopefully, this is a dead-end. Yeah, pretty much. Right, so for a Nether Portal I need 14 blocks of obsidian as a minimum. You can make them bigger but that’s the minimum amount you need.
So, I’m just going to stop myself right there because what I’ve just said isn’t actually completely true. So, yes, you can build a Nether Portal with 14 blocks of obsidian like this, which as we all know will work fine. But you don’t need all those blocks. So, if you’re a bit short on obsidian you can actually build one that looks like this. So, exactly the same structure but the four corners can be literally any other block. And just to prove it, there we go. That works too. And, you could even go one step further and have no corners whatsoever. And just to prove it that also works. So, you don’t need 14. The minimum you need to build a Nether Portal is just 10 blocks.
So, I’ll probably fast forward this bit because it takes about 10 seconds to mine each block and that’s not going to be very interesting to watch.
OK, so let’s go make a portal! Actually, um, did I have to make a flint and steel? I was going to. Let’s make a couple. OK, so, where would be a good place for a portal? I quite like this spot here. So, four blocks on the bottom and then one, two, three, four, up like that. So, here we go. We’ve made our portal. Time to light it. Cool. Right, I probably need to make sure I’ve got some food before I head into The Nether because I have literally nothing at the moment.
Right. So, I’ve got some torches. I’ve got some food. I’ve got weapons. I’ve got armour. I’ve got enough obsidian and a flint and steel to either repair or create a completely new portal to get back. I think we’re good to go. Wish me luck!
So what can we see? The Nether update is so cool! Right, Nether Quartz up there. Nether Quartz there. I can definitely get that. That’s all I’m interested in now. Oh, no. Is that gold? That is gold. Creepy noises! There’s definitely quartz up there. Just out of interest where am I? Crimson Forest. There we go. I’m not really sure how much I need. I’ll just get, I don’t know, maybe 10 or so to get me started. OK, I’m not going to venture any further. This is more than enough for now, but let’s just take a moment to look at how pretty that is… stroke terrifying. It’s brilliant. Right, back we go. Oh, how did I miss that?
So I think that’s probably a good place to sign off. That was a very successful first episode. I got everything I needed to get to The Nether, to get some Nether Quartz. So, next episode I’ll focus on farming, crop farms, automated chicken cookers, that kind of thing.
